Geenah and Javier’s Union Station Dallas wedding ended with a cinematic exit outside the venue.

Some weddings feel especially connected to the language of film. Geenah and Javier’s wedding was one of them.

She is a director. He is a cinematographer. And their story began on a film shoot in Dallas, which made documenting their wedding day at Union Station in Downtown Dallas feel like everything coming full circle.

Their day started at The Adolphus Hotel, continued into an indoor ceremony and reception at Union Station Dallas, and included portraits at Ferris Plaza Park with Reunion Tower in the background. With the historic architecture of Downtown Dallas, a meaningful couple story, and a beautifully planned celebration by Katie Pagel with As You Wish Events, this wedding had everything we love about creating cinematic wedding films in Dallas.

Because their story began on a set, this wedding also felt closely connected to the kind of intentional storytelling we bring to our broader Dallas videographer work — where lighting, pacing, sound, and atmosphere all shape the final film.

Geenah and Javier brought a calm, creative presence to the day, and that made the film feel both elegant and deeply personal.

Getting Ready at The Adolphus Hotel in Downtown Dallas

Geenah and Javier started the day at The Adolphus Hotel, one of Downtown Dallas’ most recognizable and refined hotels. The atmosphere of The Adolphus gave the beginning of the film a classic, elevated feel before the day transitioned into the historic setting of Union Station.

Getting ready coverage is one of the most important parts of a wedding film because it sets the tone before the pace of the day picks up. These moments give the story room to breathe — final details, quiet anticipation, time with family and friends, and the emotion building before the ceremony.

Because Geenah and Javier both come from a filmmaking background, I wanted the footage to feel intentional without ever feeling overly staged. The goal was to create a film that felt cinematic, natural, and connected to the emotion of the day.

From The Adolphus, the wedding party traveled by party bus to Union Station, bringing a fun shift in energy as the day moved from quiet preparation into celebration.

Why Union Station Works So Well for a Cinematic Dallas Wedding Film

Union Station is one of the most distinctive wedding venues in Downtown Dallas. The venue has a timeless, historic character that gives wedding films a strong sense of place. Its indoor spaces feel classic and elegant, while the surrounding downtown area gives couples access to beautiful exterior portrait locations within just a short walk.

For video, that matters. A great wedding film is not only about the ceremony and reception — it is also about atmosphere, movement, transitions, and visual variety.

Union Station works especially well because it offers:

  • Historic indoor architecture

  • A central Downtown Dallas location

  • Easy access to Ferris Plaza Park

  • Nearby views of Reunion Tower

  • Strong ceremony and reception flow in one location

  • A polished indoor setting for elegant wedding coverage

For Geenah and Javier, the venue gave us a perfect visual foundation. The day could move from hotel preparation at The Adolphus, to portraits near the fountain at Ferris Plaza Park, to an emotional indoor ceremony, and then into a high-energy reception without ever losing the Downtown Dallas feel.

Groom Portraits at Ferris Plaza Park

Before the ceremony, we stepped across the street from Union Station to Ferris Plaza Park for Javier’s groom portraits. The massive fountain, surrounding downtown architecture, and open city feel gave the portraits a clean and cinematic look.

Ferris Plaza Park is a great location for wedding portraits because it immediately gives the film a sense of place. You can feel Downtown Dallas in the background without needing to leave the venue area or build in a major transportation break.

For Javier, the fountain and architectural lines created a strong, classic portrait setting before the ceremony. Later in the day, we returned to the park with Geenah and Javier together and were able to capture some of the strongest visuals from the wedding, including shots with Reunion Tower in the background.

An Indoor Ceremony at Union Station Dallas

The ceremony took place indoors at Union Station Dallas, which gave the moment a timeless and elegant atmosphere. The space worked beautifully on camera, especially with a multicamera setup designed to capture both the full room and the smaller emotional details.

For the ceremony, we used multiple cameras to make sure the final film had a complete sense of the moment. One camera was positioned toward the back of the room facing the altar, while I personally filmed tighter emotional coverage and my second shooter captured an additional perspective for the edit.

Audio was also a major priority. Ceremony audio is one of the most important parts of a wedding film, especially during vows, readings, and family moments. We recorded the speakers using a recorder and lavalier setup, giving us clean audio to support the emotional structure of the final edit.

The ceremony itself was heartfelt, personal, and beautifully paced. It gave the film a strong emotional foundation before the energy of the reception began.

Portraits with Reunion Tower in the Background

After the ceremony, we crossed back over to Ferris Plaza Park for couple portraits.

This was one of the most visually memorable parts of the day. With Union Station nearby, the downtown architecture around us, and Reunion Tower rising in the background, the location gave the film a distinctly Dallas feeling.

These portraits were important because they helped the wedding film feel rooted in the city. It was not just a beautiful wedding that could have happened anywhere. It felt like Geenah and Javier’s story unfolding in Downtown Dallas — the same city where they first met on a film shoot.

That kind of location context matters in a wedding film. The skyline, architecture, movement, and light all help build the world around the couple’s story.

Our Filming Approach for Geenah + Javier’s Wedding

Because Geenah and Javier are both filmmakers, the approach needed to feel intentional from start to finish. We wanted the film to feel cinematic, but never forced. Polished, but still emotionally honest.

For this wedding, we used a multicamera approach throughout the day, giving us flexibility during the ceremony, speeches, first dances, and reception coverage. This allowed us to preserve the full structure of the wedding while also capturing the close, emotional moments that make the final film feel personal.

Our lens choices were also intentional. A natural focal length carried much of the visual language of the day because of its clean, cinematic feel. During the ceremony, longer lenses helped isolate emotion and create a more intimate perspective. For the reception, smooth camera movement helped bring the first dances and dance floor to life without making the film feel chaotic.

Lighting was also a key part of the reception coverage. Dance floors can become dark or visually messy very quickly, so we used panel lights both on and off camera to shape the room and keep the footage clean, energetic, and flattering.

For us, the gear is never the point by itself. The purpose of the production approach is to make sure the story, emotion, movement, and atmosphere are preserved in a way that feels elevated.

Reception Coverage at Union Station

Once the reception began, the production shifted into a more dynamic multicamera setup.

For the first dances and speeches, we used multiple camera angles to capture both the polished wide moments and the emotional close-ups. I filmed the first dances with smooth gimbal movement, while my second shooter captured tighter reactions and emotional details throughout the dances and speeches.

This type of setup helps the final film feel more cinematic because it gives the edit rhythm and perspective. Instead of relying on one angle, we can move between movement, reaction, atmosphere, and emotion.

The reception at Union Station had a beautiful flow — elegant first dances, meaningful speeches, and then a major shift into a high-energy party.

LED Bongos, DJ Dom, and a Packed Dance Floor

One of the standout moments of the night was the LED bongo performance before the dance floor officially opened. It created a huge burst of energy in the room and gave the reception a visual transition from formal celebration into full party mode.

After that, DJ Dom with LeForce Entertainment opened up the dance floor, and the energy stayed strong for the rest of the night.

For the dance floor, we kept the camera close to the action to capture the movement, reactions, and full energy of the room. We used additional panel lighting throughout the dance floor coverage to make sure the footage stayed clean and visually polished.

Good lighting makes a massive difference during receptions, especially when the goal is to capture the party atmosphere while still keeping the final film elevated.

A Cinematic Wedding Exit Outside Union Station

The night ended with an exit outside Union Station.

Since exits happen quickly, having the right lens and lighting ready ahead of time is important. The wider perspective helped capture the movement and energy of the moment, while the backlight gave the scene more depth and separation.

It was the perfect closing moment for the film — energetic, cinematic, and connected to the Downtown Dallas setting.

Tips for filming at Union Station

Union Station is already a beautiful venue, but a little planning can make the wedding film even stronger.

• Build in time for Ferris Plaza Park portraits. Because Ferris Plaza Park is so close to Union Station, it is one of the easiest ways to add a strong Downtown Dallas look to the film without needing a major location change.

• Think through indoor ceremony audio. For indoor ceremonies, clean audio matters just as much as the visuals. Vows, officiant audio, and readings should be recorded clearly so the emotional parts of the day can be used in the final film.

• Use the downtown location to your advantage. Union Station gives couples access to a very specific Dallas atmosphere. The surrounding streets, skyline, and historic architecture can all help the film feel more personal and location-driven.

• Plan reception lighting intentionally. Dance floors can be difficult to film if the room is too dark or lighting is inconsistent. A professional video team can use subtle lighting to keep the party atmosphere intact while making the footage look clean and cinematic.

• Work with a planner who understands the flow of the day. With Katie Pagel and the As You Wish Events team leading the planning, the day moved smoothly between The Adolphus, Union Station, Ferris Plaza Park, and the reception.

Filming a Wedding for Two Filmmakers

One of the most meaningful parts of this wedding was knowing that Geenah and Javier both understand filmmaking from the inside.

Javier is a cinematographer. Geenah is a director. They met on a Dallas film set. So filming their wedding was not just about documenting an event — it was about honoring a story that began through the creative world they both love.

When filming a wedding for people who understand cameras, lighting, pacing, and storytelling, the goal is not to overcomplicate the day. The goal is to make thoughtful decisions that serve the story.

For Geenah and Javier, that meant intentional coverage, clean audio, multicamera filming, controlled reception lighting, and a filming style that allowed the day to feel both cinematic and real.

Their wedding also reflects the same kind of storytelling approach we bring to commercial, event, and brand work throughout Dallas. Whether we are filming a wedding, a brand story, or a live event, the foundation is similar: strong visuals, clear audio, intentional pacing, and a final film that feels connected to the people and place behind it.
