Filming a Live Concert at Granada Theater in Dallas

Filming a live concert requires a balance of precision, timing, and creative movement — especially in a venue like Granada Theater in Dallas. Known for its historic character and intimate concert atmosphere, it’s one of the most recognizable live music venues in the city. For artists, venues, and brands looking for a Dallas videographer for live performances, capturing that energy in a polished, cinematic way requires both a structured approach and creative flexibility.

For this project, we filmed a live performance for the band Midnight Thirty, creating a polished multicam concert film designed for promotional use across their website and social platforms. The goal was to capture not only the sound of the performance, but the energy, presence, and atmosphere that define a live show.

Granada Theater is one of several standout locations in Dallas for filming live events, and it’s part of a wider range of venues we’ve worked in across the city, which we’ve highlighted in our guide to the best Dallas venues to shoot at.

This live performance at Granada Theater in Dallas was filmed using a 4-camera multicam setup, combining dynamic gimbal movement with stable coverage to create a polished, cinematic concert film.

Multicam Setup for a Dynamic Concert Film

To capture the performance effectively, we built a 4-camera setup designed to balance clean coverage with cinematic movement:

  • 2 tripod cameras (70–200mm lenses)

Positioned for stable, tight coverage of the performers, capturing key moments and close-up detail on stage.

  • 1 gimbal-operated camera (24–70mm)

Used to move throughout the venue and near the stage, adding dynamic, immersive motion to the final film.

  • 1 wide-angle camera (24mm at a 45° angle)

Locked off to capture the full stage and provide a consistent master shot for multicam editing.

I led the shoot using the gimbal setup, focusing on capturing movement, crowd perspective, and more dynamic angles while the tripod cameras maintained consistent coverage of the performance.

This setup allowed us to combine technical precision with creative movement, resulting in footage that feels both structured and visually engaging.

Why a Multicam Setup Matters for Live Performances

Live performances happen in real time, which means there are no second takes. A multicam setup ensures that no key moments are missed while also giving flexibility in post-production to create a more engaging and seamless final edit.

By capturing multiple angles simultaneously, we’re able to:

  • maintain continuity throughout the performance

  • cut between perspectives naturally

  • highlight important musical moments

  • create a more immersive viewing experience

For live music and event video production, this approach makes a significant difference in the overall quality of the final film.

Editing a 45-Minute Live Performance

The performance ran approximately 45 minutes and was edited using a multicam workflow to create a cohesive live performance film.

The focus in post-production was to:

  • maintain the rhythm and pacing of the performance

  • blend stable coverage with dynamic gimbal shots

  • highlight key transitions and musical moments

  • create a polished final product the band could use for promotion

The final video gives Midnight Thirty a strong promotional asset they can use across their website, social media, press kits, and future booking opportunities.

Promotional Video Content for Bands and Live Performers

A multicam concert film like this provides long-term value beyond the event itself. For bands and performers, it creates content that can be used across:

  • websites and landing pages

  • social media platforms

  • promotional campaigns

  • booking and press materials

Capturing a live performance in a polished, cinematic way helps translate the energy of a show into something that can continue working for the artist long after the event is over.
